Abstract

This study aimed to review the antimicrobial activity of propolis and evaluate its application in dental interventions for the prevention and management of infections. A systematic bibliographic review of studies published between 2018 and 2023 was carried out, selecting 25 key investigations. The results highlighted that propolis inhibits oral pathogens such as Streptococcus mutans and Enterococcus faecalis, and promotes healing in dental sockets after extractions. The effectiveness of propolis varies depending on its geographical origin and preparation. In conclusion, propolis demonstrates great potential as an antimicrobial agent and adjuvant in dental procedures, improving postoperative recovery and reducing infections.
