CHRONIC PERIODONTITIS IN PATENTS OF STRESS

Introduction: chronic periodontal disease is considered a health problem today, threatening the quality of life and general well-being of people. Objective: determine the association of the severity of chronic periodontitis with stress levels and oral hygiene. Methods: a cross-sectional descriptive observational study was designed, between January 2021 and January 2023, with a universe of 462 adult patients assisted at the Provincial Teaching Stomatology Clinic, Martyrs del Moncada in Santiago de Cuba with a diagnosis of chronic periodontitis. The sample of 87 patients was selected through intentional non-probabilistic sampling, meeting the inclusion criteria: over 19 years of age with chronic periodontitis, presence of the stress factor reported by a competent health professional after applying a questionnaire or psychological test. and who volunteered to participate in the study. The variables age, sex, oral hygiene, stress levels, as well as severity of chronic periodontitis were specified. The information was obtained from the clinical history and a semi-structured survey, processed through a data registry and presented in frequent descriptive statistical tables. The chi-square statistical test was used with a significance of 0.05. Results: the group of 60 years and older predominated, the female sex, poor oral hygiene in 100% of cases, high stress level and severe or complicated chronic periodontitis. Conclusions: in adult patients, a significant association of chronic periodontitis with high or moderate stress levels and poor oral hygiene was found.
