INFLUENCE OF ORAL PATHOLOGIES IN THE SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF SOCCER PLAYERS

Introduction: Oral pathologies are one of the main risk factors that influence sports performance, a situation that is of great interest to public health. The objective of the study is to determine the influence of oral pathologies that affect the sports performance of the footballers of the “Torre Fuerte” Club. Methodology. In this sense, the descriptive cross-sectional methodology, qualitative-quantitative approach, was applied with a sample. population of 27 athletes. The direct observation technique was used and the clinical history instrument and an information collection sheet were applied according to the study variables. Results. It is evident that 30% of soccer players present dental caries, likewise, defined and severe malocclusion has been identified, with regular performance in sports activity; Regarding systemic pathologies, periapical abscesses, muscle and ligamentous injuries were identified as among the most relevant. Conclusion. It was determined that the oral health of soccer player’s influences sports performance, which is generally caused by cavities, gingivitis and malocclusions. Given this situation, it is relevant to carry out a dental evaluation in sports activities and adopt prevention standards to improve oral health in athletes.
