Abstract

Introduction: Dental prostheses in older adults at the “Santa Cruz” Nursing Home are alternatives to improve oral health, however, lifestyle must be considered to reduce the risk of producing injuries that can have serious effects on the health of older adults. Methodology, descriptive, cross-sectional and correlational, with a quantitative approach, the population sample was 49 older adults, both men and women. The technique used was observation and the instrument used was a data collection sheet. Laboratory analysis was performed based on culture media obtained from the prostheses. Results. The poor condition of the prosthesis material is evident in 73% of the patients, likewise, the risk factors are associated with both Gram (+) bacteria in 100% of the cases presented and, in the Gram (-) with 96% of pathogenic microorganisms. Conclusion. Microorganisms are evident in the risk areas of the dental prostheses, 2 types gram (+) and 2 gram (-), with slight fungal growth, and high contamination in the prostheses. Bacterial infections are significant, due to poor hygiene in 78% of patients, associated with the poor condition of the prosthesis used in 73% of the population.
