Abstract

It presented a clinical case of a 27-year-old patient who was assisted in a Gastroenterology consultation during the month of May 2019 at the High Technology Medical Center in New Esparta, Venezuela. This patient came to the consultation complaining of dysphagia to solid foods and pain when swallowing four weeks later after having an Acute Respiratory Infection for which had a treatment with different antibiotics. On physical examination, was found that the patient was anxious, oral thrush in the vestibular region and the results of blood tests and X-rays were negative. It was decided to make an endoscopic study to corroborate the likely diagnosis of esophagitis by Candida because of whitish plaques in the esophagus mucosa accompanied by several ulcerations with irregular and clean borders. Because of appropriate treatment with ketoconazole, this patient had a good recovery and discharge without complications.
