EDUCATIONAL INTERVENTION TO INCREASE THE SATISFACTION OF OLDER ADULTS WITH THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE

Introduction: Quality of life in older adults can be assessed to the extent that elders evidence satisfactory longevity. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention to increase the satisfaction of older adults with their quality of life.
Methods: An intervention study was carried out in the office No 14 of the Policlínico Docente Luis Li Trigent of Güines, Mayabeque, Cuba. The population studied was 248 elderly people from 60 to 79 years old and the sample was 112 elderly people by convenience method. Variables such as age, sex and satisfaction with quality of life and its dimensions were analyzed. Educational techniques were used and the WHOQOL-BREF survey was applied, as well as numbers, percentages and arithmetic mean. Results: Females in the 65 to 69 years age group predominated with 19.64%. Before the intervention, the elderly aged 75 to 79 years felt dissatisfied with their quality of life by 14.28% and the male sex by 28.57%; after the intervention, all age groups increased their level of satisfaction, especially those aged 65 to 69 years and 75 to 79 years with 16.07% and 10.71% in the moderate category; the male sex increased the moderate and fairly moderate categories with 16.07% and 17.85%.Conclusions: As age advances less satisfaction of older adults with their quality of life is evident, the intervention performed greatly improved the satisfaction of older adults with their quality of life.
