Abstract

Background: Myocardial infarction is a global health problem, defining the characteristics of patients who died from myocardial infarction could help to develop strategies to modify lethality”. Objective: To describe the risk profile of those who died from myocardial infarction in the emergency room in Florida in 2022. Methods: A retrospective descriptive study of the 21 deaths from myocardial infarction in the emergency room was conducted; the data was obtained from the registry of the deceased, clinical histories, and the verbal autopsy performed on relatives. Results: Women predominated: 57.1%, white skin color: 38.1%, the age group between 60 and 69 years 33.3%, and the urban origin: 57.1% The typical clinical forms predominated; Most of the deceased had ST elevation 70.6% and cardiac enzyme abnormalities 69.2%. 90.5% of the patients presented complications; acute pulmonary edema, arrhythmias, and heart failure were the major contributors to death. Arterial hypertension 71.4%, smoking 61.9%, and a history of ischemic heart disease 61.9% were the most identified risk factors. Having more than 3 risk factors 66.6% negatively influenced survival. Conclusions: A risk profile is given by Belonging to the female sex, aged 60 to 69 years, white skin color, and urban origin in patients with risk factors for arterial hypertension, a history of heart disease, and smoking who generally had more than 3 risk factors was demonstrated. The typical clinical form predominated and the electrocardiographic and enzymatic changes were diagnostic pillars.
