Introduction: Gingivectomy is performed in many cases in patients who need provisional fixed prostheses in addition or after this procedure through the use of traditional anesthesia or acupuncture analgesia for better pain management. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture analgesia in patients surgically operated by the gingivectomy technique in anterior teeth that require temporary fixed prostheses. Materials and Methods: An experimental study was conducted at the Stomatological Clinic of Santiago de Cuba, between January-November 2019, in 24 patients distributed by random prior assignment in 2 groups with a ratio of 1:1. Group 1 received treatment with acupuncture analgesia and group 2 received conventional treatment using traditional anesthesia. The variables age, sex, pain, recovery time, clinical parameters and general effectiveness of the techniques were studied. Results: There was a predominance of the group of 40 to 49 years, female sex, little preoperative pain, persistence of gingival bleeding at 7 days postoperative, few posttherapeutic complications and high effectiveness of acupuncture analgesic. Conclusion: High effectiveness of acupuncture surgical analgesia in relation to that achieved through the use of traditional anesthesia in the gingivectomy technique.
