Abstract

Introduction: Congenital muscular torticollis is the third most commonly diagnosed orthopedic disease in childhood. Early diagnosis and rehabilitation treatment can influence its evolution and prognosis. Objective: To characterize children under 5 years of age with this entity from the clinical and epidemiological points of view. Materials and Methods: An observational, longitudinal and prospective Research was carried out. The universe consisted of 114 children under 5 years of age who attended the provincial Neurodevelopment consultation of the South Children’s Hospital of Santiago de Cuba in the period 2017-2020. Results: The male sex predominated (67.9%), the average age was 6,9 ± 2 months, 21,4% of the patients presented organic complications of the entity. Eutocic delivery (73,2%), right-sided involvement (67,9%), age less than 6 months (65,2%), and fetal macrosomia (11,6%) were the clinical and demographic elements of higher observance.
