Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia caused by a failure in insulin action and/or secretion. Objective: To design a nursing care plan for a patient diagnosed with diabetic foot using Katharine Kolcaba's Theoretical Model of Comfort, which promotes comfort. Materials and methods: Qualitative case study located in a region of Orinoquia, Colombia. Marjory Gordon's assessment model was used for the assessment; the NANDA diagnostic taxonomy was used to select the priority diagnoses, the NOC taxonomy was used for the results, and the NOC taxonomy was used for the interventions. Results: Three priority nursing diagnoses were identified for the patient: Impaired skin integrity, Acute pain, and Impaired physical mobility. The interventions applied using the NOC and NIC taxonomies showed varying effectiveness, with significant improvements in self-care and emotional management. Conclusion: The comprehensive approach to patient care included the implementation of a personalized nursing plan focused on meeting the patient's comfort needs in order to improve their quality of life.
