Abstract

Anterior open bite in permanent dentition is an occlusal anomaly that must be addressed with a comprehensive therapeutic approach. It is related to a clockwise vertical growth pattern and is also associated with persistent oral habits. It has aesthetic and functional implications. In this article, we share the use of combined therapies in a patient with permanent dentition who presented with anterior open bite associated with thumb sucking; fixed expansion appliances, tongue educators, and Simoes Network 3 orthopedic appliances were used.

Before and after treatment photographs and radiographs are shown to evaluate the changes obtained at the skeletal, facial, and dental levels.

This case report highlights the importance of correcting malocclusions once they have been identified and the diagnosis and etiological factors are clear.
